Information Technology Specialist at IWMI Battaramulla. Plan, design, and deliver geospatial data integration solutions and applications across IWMI's research portfolio.

Responsibilities

Plan, design, and deliver geospatial data integration solutions across all of IWMI's research portfolio
Architect and maintain geospatial data pipelines, harmonising data from heterogeneous sources
Build, test and integrate APIs and microservices that expose IWMI data products
Champion engineering best practices, automated testing, code reviews and CI/CD
Ensure data quality, lineage, and reliability through monitoring, documentation and governance
Architect, design and integrate the IWMI's web mapping application and platform
Continuously improve our cloud-hosted infrastructure (AWS, Azure)
Collaborate with research teams to translate scientific use cases into production data flows
Mentor junior engineers and analysts on integration and platform engineering practices

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's in computer science, information systems, GIS or a closely related discipline
Around 5+ years' experience designing and operating data-integration platforms (ETL/ELT, REST APIs, message queues)
Strong programming skills in Python and/or TypeScript; production experience in containerized microservice architectures
Hands-on with cloud architecture (AWS or Azure), serverless functions, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and DevOps tooling
Solid grasp of geospatial standards and tools (OGC APIs, PostGIS, GDAL, Mapbox/Leaflet)
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage scientific and operational stakeholders
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a customer-service mindset
